The One Skin-Care Step Jada Pinkett Smith Says ‘Keeps Wrinkles Away’

Actress and talk-show host Jada Pinkett Smith just shared her “Skin Restarter Routine” on Instagram, which showcased every product she uses “after wearing makeup every day during long shoots.” After watching her in-depth video, we not only learned that many of her go-to products are under $10, but that the key to glowing skin may be facial steaming.

With an array of products and elixirs lined up in front of her, Smith says, “I get a professional facial maybe once or twice a year, so I really have learned to take care of my skin. We can use a lot of great makeup, but if you can’t take that makeup off and have some beautiful essence shining through underneath, you can’t do anything.”

The 49-year-old also adds that while topical products are great for maintaining the health of your skin, what you put inside your body matters more. “If you drink a lot of alcohol, if you eat a lot of junk food, or if you smoke, your skin will be affected. You have to drink tons of water. I drink 12 bottles per day,” she says.

To start her routine, Smith pours about a cup of boiling water into a glass bowl, covers her head with a towel, and steams her skin. “This opens up the pores, deeply moisturizes, and also loosens up whatever dead skin you have on your face.” After a few minutes, she moves on to cleansing her face with Tatcha Deep Cleanse ($38).

Post-cleanse, Smith puts her face back over the boiling water. “Steaming is the thing that keeps wrinkles away and gives you that glow,” she says. For step three, the Girls Trip star uses Dermalogica Precleanse ($45) to create slip and help her with her next step: removing dead skin with her microdermabrasion machine.

“If you don’t have a microdermabrasion machine, use an exfoliating washcloth, which works great with a precleanse to get into the nooks of your face and remove dead skin.” Smith also says that an exfoliating cloth is gentle enough to use around the eyes and continues by applying Burt’s Bees Baby Bee Shampoo & Wash ($9) and gently sloughing around her eye area. “I use this because it’s not going to sting and it’s also super gentle. You get a lot of dead skin on your eyelids and in your eyebrows but it’s important not to rub or tug around that area.”

Next, she uses the Neutrogena Clear Pore Cleanser and Mask ($9) and waits for her pores to open before returning to the steam. Then, she makes an avocado mask, which includes half of an avocado and two tablespoons of honey. “For a mask like this, I usually leave it on for a good 20 minutes and my skin is always super soft after. If you don’t feel like using the avocado mask, I recommend Tatcha Luminous Dewy Skin Mask ($12) .

After yet another steam, Smith goes in with her serums. On her lineup: Proderma 2.5% Retinol Face Serum ($18), Zo Skin Health Wrinkle + Texture Repair ($145) and Kreyol Essence Hatian Moringa Oil ($25).
